An integration between Promote and Credly allows learner completions in Promote to issue digital badges from Credly. Completions are reported when a learner fulfills the program completion criteria set in Promote. This article will guide you through the process step by step.

Integration Overview
What this integration does
The Credly integration connects Promote with Credly, a leading digital credentialing platform. When a learner meets the completion criteria for a program in Promote, a digital badge is automatically issued to them via Credly.
The learner receives an email inviting them to accept their badge, which they can then share publicly, for example on LinkedIn.
Why use it?
Digital badges add tangible value to the training you offer. They give learners a portable, verifiable credential they can proudly share, which increases the perceived value of your programs and motivates completion.
For training providers and organisations investing in professional development, Credly badges are a strong way to formally recognise achievement.
The integration makes the whole process automatic. Once a learner completes a program, the badge is issued with no additional steps required from your team.

Integration Configuration
In order to establish a connection between Promote and Credly, an initial configuration must be performed on both platforms. This section will guide you through that configuration.
1. Credly configuration
In order to allow an external application (Promote) to connect to Credly, an OAuth application needs to be created. This can be accomplished by a Credly user with administrative rights, by taking the following steps:
- Log on to Credly and go to Developers .
- In the Developers screen click OAuth Applications
- Copy and save your Organization ID which you will use later when configuring your integration in Promote
- Click Create OAuth Application and give the app a name, e.g. Promote.
- Click Save to finalize creating the application.
- Client ID and Client Secret will be used when configuring Promote so copy these values or keep the view open in your browser until you have completed the steps below in Promote
2 Promote configuration
We will now create the Credly integration in Promote, which requires elevated privileges. To do so, the following steps should be taken by a user with administrative rights:
- Log on to Promote and, under Admin, select Users in the left side menu.
- Search for and select the user who will configure the integration (this is most likely your own user.)
- In the Edit user screen, under Permissions, check manage integrations, and save.
At this point, the Integrations tab will become visible in the left side menu, giving you access to the connector configuration.
- Select Integrations in the left menu bar.
- Click the +Add New button in the upper right corner
- From the Select type list, select Digital Badge (Credly).
- Give the application a descriptive name, such as Credly Production or Credly Sandbox, if you are establishing a connection to a production or sandbox environment respectively.
- Under Organization ID insert the ID from step 2.1.3 above
- Under Client ID insert the ID from step 2.1.6 above
- Under Client Secret insert the secret from step 2.1.6 above
- Select which Credly environment you are using, Production or Sandbox
You now have established a connection between Promote and Credly. This is typically a one-time configuration and only needs to be updated if changes are made to the OAuth application in Credly.
Awarding digital badges in programs
Once a connection has been established between the two platforms, a Promote program can be configured to award learners with a digital badge from Credly when fulfilling the completion criteria set for the program.
Learners who complete the program will receive an email from Credly, using the email address registered in Promote, allowing them to accept the digital badge which can then be shared on for example LinkedIn.
1 Program configuration
- Log on to Credly and go to Badges.
- Click on the badge template you want to use in your Promote program (or create a new)
- Copy the Badge Template ID
- Sign in to Promote as an administrator and go to the program where you want to add digital badges
- Click on the Integrations tab
- Select the Credly integration from the list of available integrations
- Under Badge template ID insert the ID from step 3.1.3 above
- Click Save
You have now completed all the necessary steps to ensure that any learner completing the program in Promote, will receive the correct digital badge from Credly.
