Formatting messages in programs – Promote International

Introduction about messages

You can use formatted text in any message in a Promote program. This means you can use bold or italic text, titles, links and bullet- or numbered lists. You can also embed videos and attach files and images by drag and drop instead of using a file picker, and as before you can mention other program members to notify them and get their attention. This allows program members to be more creative when completing tasks or communicating in the program.

How to use the editor in messages

The editor in programs will encourage learners to be more creative when completing tasks and communicating in the program. Mark the word you want to edit and then choose among the buttons. If you hover over each button a text will appear that explains the function of the button.

Embed content in messages

Content from a number of services can be embedded in any message in a Promote program. When posting a message in Promote you can include a clickable link, if the link is to one of the supported services you will get an option to display the content embedded in the message instead of as a link. This means you can for example display a video from Youtube or Vimeo in your message.

Can you embed everything?

For security reasons, only supported services can be embedded in messages. This is a requirement in order to avoid someone accidentally embedding something from an unsecured source. The list of supported services will keep growing over time as we add more things to embed.

Also worth knowing is that there are sources that can’t be embedded for technical reasons. So even if you know that a source is reliable we may not be able to add support for it if the service itself does not allow it to be embedded.
